Galaxy S4 Specs and Rumor Roundup

Galaxy S4 Specs and Rumor Roundup

Despite some stiff competition, Samsung appears to be sitting pretty in the mobile world. The Galaxy line has been incredibly popular with consumers in many different age groups, and was one of the most-given items this past Christmas period. For those of you who’ve already become die-hard Galaxy fans, or those curious as to what all the hype is about, we’ve gathered up the thus-known specs and rumors regarding Samsung’s latest and greatest, the upcoming Galaxy S4.

Galaxy S4 – The Basics

We’ll begin with what has been (tentatively) nailed down as true first, then move on to rumored specs. So far, some pleasing little nuggets of information have come out, and are believed to be trustworthy. These include the coveted Android Jelly Bean platform, which we love. Honestly, we’d be surprised if Samsung’s flagship shipped with anything less.

This also means that all of your gavourite and more! Android goodies will be right at your fingertips, including Google Maps, Google Play and Picasa. The handset is said to support a Micro SD card with a capacity up to 64MB, giving you plenty of space for your videos and music. The Galaxy 4S will be 4G LTE capable, providing the service is available in your area.

With a ridiculously powerful processor, we expect the S4 to be fully capable of handling pretty much whatever you choose to throw at it regarding functionality.

Possible Camera Features

Shutterbugs, video-philes and Skype addicts will be thrilled with the S4. The primary camera is a 13 Megapixel beast with auto-focus and LED flash.

In addition, there is simultaneous HD video and image capture, along with helpful features like stabilization, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile recognition and HDR. In short, this handset could easily replace your camera, since it probably out-performs it already.

Galaxy S4 – The Rumors

The biggest rumors swirling around the mill these days have to do with the Galaxy S4′s display and, of course, it’s release date. Although predictions first placed it sometime in January, that’s obviously come and gone. The most reliable information we could dig up places the Galaxy S4 release date sometime during May of 2013. Shipping delays on the handset’s rumored screen coincide with this time frame.

More on that Display

Some users were disappointed with the use of PenTile technology on the S3. The move was intended to give Apple’s Retina display a run for its money, but consumers have been decidedly on the fence.

The rumored S4 screen, however should make everybody quite happy, Pushing the limits at a full five inches, the full 1080p HD screen could boast 441ppi, making it one of – if not the – highest-res display currently available. The flexible screens we all hoped for are most likely not going to be seen on any handset this year, but after hearing the S4′s screen rumor, we could care less.

Other tantalizing could-be goodies include AirView, which would allow you to run your mobile without actually touching it. Necessary? Probably not. Cool? Absolutely.

CPU and Chipset Rumors

Rounding out our roundup is the rumor regarding what lies underneath the hood of the Galaxy S4. The Exynos 5450 Quad chipset, Samsung’s own, sounds great. What we really can’t wait to try, however, is the power delivered by the Exynos octa-core processor. Yes, we said ‘octa.’ As in eight.

This if true would be more powerful than any phone we’ve ever personally had the chance to meet. Doubling the power of most handsets on the market, this processor promises to run apps smoothly and dramatically reduce battery drain, thereby giving you more charge-free time to talk, text, play, record, video chat and…well, pretty much whatever you choose. Heck, try them all! With that much power under the hood, we’re fairly certain the S4 will be able to handle the load.

Galaxy S4 – Yes Please!

Will you want this phone? Yeah, you probably will. We do now and thats based on rumor alone. Early adopters will definitely want to snatch this one up. For those of you who’ve never tried out a Galaxy Smartphone before, we recommend waiting just long enough to hear some real-world reviews. Based on what we’ve gathered, however, we can’t imagine too many people being anything less than delighted with Samsung’s newest offering.

A new phone is on the near horizon for me, but the choices are almost paralyzing. HTC, Samsung, Nokia, & perhaps Gola are in the running. Decisions are tough.
