Galaxy S3 Mini – Small in Stature Big on Features

Galaxy S3 Mini – Small in Stature Big on Features

Ever wonder if good things really do come in small packages? Samsung wants to prove that old saying right with their latest offering, the Galaxy S3 Mini. This cute little handset serves two main functions in the smartphone world. First, it offers Samsung fans a phone that can actually be operated by those of us without giant spider-hands, and without the annoying feeling that you’re about to drop your phone at any second. Next, it’s slated to compete with the iPhone 5, that gotta-have-it device that many found to be lacking in features but which is still expected to be a massive holiday-season seller.

So what’s up with the Mini? Read on for details on this adorably petite handset that has the mobile industry buzzing.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini

Whether you have little hands, want a phone you can comfortably maneuver or just think tiny things are cute, size is the most obvious aspect setting this handset apart from the pack. Phones have slowly been growing over the past few years, to accommodate larger processors and larger screens.

The Galaxy S3 Mini still boasts a four-inch screen, but its overall dimensions are decidedly smaller than the rest at just 121.6 x 63 x 9.9mm in size. You can slip this baby in your pocket regardless of what you’re wearing, yet you still get an eye-popping 480×800 display.

Processor Speed

If you’re an owner or a fan of the Galaxy S3, one of your favorite aspects is most likely the processor. There’s nothing quite like quad-core speeds, especially if you’re a gamer. Sadly, the mini just doesn’t have enough room under the hood for that kind of power. The S3 Mini arrives with a dual-core processor, cutting noticeable power in half but still quite impressive for its size.

If you do a great deal of gaming, this may be a reason to skip on the Mini. If not, you’ll probably be in for a pleasant surprise – despite the slashed power, we couldn’t a feature that seemed to be negatively affected.

Screen Size

We’re all fans of the big-screen phone. Just like television sets, we want the biggest, the brightest, the clearest. Until the Galaxy S3 Mini, that also usually meant the biggest overall phone. Thankfully, this little guy breaks the mold and delivers a bright, crisp four-inch Super AMOLED display without all the bulk that usually comes along with a screen of this size.

Sure, it’s a size downgrade from the massive 4.8 inch screen of its big brother, the Galaxy S3. However, it’s still extremely competitive in the market as a whole. Perhaps better still, that four-inch screen puts the Galaxy S3 Mini right next to the iPhone 5 in terms of display size.

Android Jelly Bean

Jelly Bean! Yeah, we’re excited about this part. The Galaxy S3 Mini comes fully loaded with Android Jelly Bean, giving users a buttery-smooth interface that’s as easy for first-timers as it is for those who’ve been devoted to Android since the beginning.

You didn’t expect Samsung to launch a handset that’s been touted as the iPhone 5’s competition without the latest edition of Android did you? Jelly Bean is probably an excellent finishing touch for the Samsung Galaxy S3 “Expect it to turn some heads”

The Bottom Line

With plenty of power, a beautifully large screen, great battery life and a wonderfully maneuverable size, we think the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is poised to deliver quite a blow to iPhone 5 sales this holiday season. It’s already nailed the iPhone’s biggest selling point – a larger screen – then iced the cake with plenty of competitive specs and Jelly Bean. For our money, this is the better choice, even if we remove our deeply-held Android affections.
