Nokia 808 PureView – The Most Powerful Camera Phone Ever

Nokia 808 PureView – The Most Powerful Camera Phone Ever

A camera phone has almost become redundant – for years now, every single smartphone on the market has featured a camera. Those cameras have come in very handy, and most of us would feel lost without their capabilities. They capture everyday photos and video in excellent quality, which is what most users desire.

Serious photographers, however, are not typical camera phone users. For years, those who put a high degree of value on picture quality have been increasingly disappointed.

Nokia 808 PureView

Enter the Nokia 808 PureView. This incredibly powerful camera phone has already generated loads of buzz centered around a single set of features, all of them camera-related. Here we’ll break down the Nokia 808 PureView for you, including specs and deliciously advanced camera gadgetry.

Nokia 808 PureView: Basics

We’ll keep this short and sweet – all you expect from a brand-new smartphone, this handset’s got it. The AMOLED screen is protected by uber-tough Gorilla Glass and is a typical four inches. A disadvantage for some users is that the 808 runs on the Nokia Belle OS, not Microsoft 8 as many were hoping. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all.

In essentially every way, this is your average upper-range handset. Every way, that is, except the camera.

Nokia 808 PureView: Camera Capabilities

That specs section seemed awfully short, didn’t it? Here’s the reason – the camera on this phone deserves as much attention as humanly possible. Honestly, if you’re interested in the 808 at all, you’re lusting after the camera, not the processor. It’s a competitive phone, which is really all you care about – this handset won’t leave you out in the woods when it comes to everyday features.

On to the camera. Ah, the camera. The 41 Megapixel, Xenon-flash enhanced camera with Carl Zeiss optics built right in (we’re already drooling). If you’re wondering who Carl Zeiss is and why his name on the Nokia 808 PureView is such a big deal, utilize Google. Come to think of it, if you don’t know why it’s such a big deal, this might not be the phone for you.

Even the rear camera on the 808 is impressive – 30fps video recording for unbelievably lifelike video chatting. The main camera, in addition to shooting full 1080p video, features no loss of clarity at up to 4x zoom rate.

Nokia 808 PureView – Our opinion

If you love crystal-clear pictures and video, you will love this camera.

Need an extra bit of convincing? The Nokia 808 PureView was tested against three other camera phones and one standalone camera. This camera phone knocked them all down, winning the blind test by leaps and bounds. When it came to the standalone camera, votes were 570 to 243, favoring the PureView. That’s right, this camera phone knocked down, beat up and stomped on a stand-alone camera. Really, what other incentive do you need?

As a treat for yourself, your child or a photo-obsessed friend, the Nokia 808 PureView can’t be beat. Not only do you get all the features you’d expect from a handset in this range, but you get the most highly advanced camera/video capabilities ever to grace a handset.

Nokia 808 PureView: 5 years in the making

Exactly when the PureView will be released is anyone’s guess, we had expected it to be released on the 30th of last month. However that obviously hasn’t materialised. Rumours are now suggesting the middle of this month but let’s no hold our breath!
