We experienced a confusing and hit-and-miss lack of message notifications. Most message notifications were timely. However, a few simply never came through. We don’t know why this happens; we’re assuming (and hoping) its a glitch which will be quickly resolved. However, it is absolutely not a reason to avoid Facebook Messenger.

Keep in Touch Anytime, Anywhere

Texting is possibly the simplest method of communication known to man. With Facebook Messenger, that method is integrated into the social networking site you’re already hopelessly addicted to, making it that much easier to keep in touch with your contacts no matter where you or they happen to be in the world.

Aside from the few inexplicable gaps, receiving message notifications via Facebook Messenger is easy and convenient. You can set the app to alert you through either an audible alert or vibrations. Why is this a big deal? If you’re like many of us, you converse with friends during boring lulls in your day, and sometimes those boring lulls come during class lectures or office meetings. We all do it, but we don’t necessarily want to announce it to the entire boardroom or lecture hall. With the vibration feature, nobody has to know that while you appear completely focused on that oh-so-exciting PowerPoint presentation, you’re really OMG-ing over your best friend’s engagement in a group Facebook chat.

However, part the reason we love this app so much is that it allows us to keep in touch in an increasingly distant world. You’d think with all this technology at our fingertips, we would feel more connected than ever. In reality, many people report feeling the exact opposite. Facebook Messenger allows you to keep in touch right here, right now, which is a huge step toward actual closeness.

We also love the ability to group chat without the requirement of an actual PC. Not only is it fun, but it makes planning everything from tonight’s club-hopping to that far-off wedding much simpler. Instead of asking everybody their plans individually, you can gather all your friends into one chat and figure out important details. This saves time for you and everybody else, and it also avoids unfortunate miscommunications regarding essentials like time, place and designated drivers.
