Vodafone EuroTraveller: use your UK price plan in Europe

In an interesting and possibly very popular move Vodafone UK has announced a new service called Vodafone EuroTraveller, which is directed at its UK pay monthly contract customers only. At this moment in time, it can’t be used with pay as you go, mobile broadband or non-standard business plans and Public Sector.

Vodafone EuroTraveller

Vodafone EuroTraveller allows you to use your mobile phone in Europe with the same call & text features you would expect to have at home – so you’ll have protection from those notorious unexpected holiday bills. For just an extra £3 a day, you can take your UK pay monthly contract minutes, texts and mobile internet to Europe -and you’ll only be charged on the days you use your phone.

Vodafone EuroTraveller What’s covered?

It’s only making calls (including to yourvoicemail), sending texts and using mobileinternet that trigger the daily charge –with Vodafone EuroTraveller, there’s no chargefor receiving calls and texts.

For Just £3 a day

  • Use your minutes, texts and mobile internet withthe same freedom as in the UK (excludesextras)
  • You’ll only be charged on the days you use your phone
  • No charge for receiving calls and texts
  • No monthly commitment – opt in and out wheneveryou like
  • Check your remaining allowance just like at home- with My account or the My Vodafone app

We think this will be a big hit with holiday makers of all ages, wether travelling to Paris for a romantic weekend or Ibiza for a week of sun sea and music. If you want to find out more about this latest addition to Vodafone’s tariffs click here Save money with Vodafone

Vodafone Euro Traveller works out incredibly expensive if you are mainly a data user with varied roamed call use.

Data Traveller cost only 10 pounds a month for 25mb a day. In my case calls varied but in total monthly bill if I was roaming for a month was never as high as what it would cost with Euro Traveller – around 90 pounds!

As Vodafone removed the old services without giving the option to keep them, many customers and I are fighting to be released from our contracts as they are now pretty much useless when abroad and we chose Vodafone due to these services being available. Vodafone, however, are not allowing this and so complaints have been lodged with Ofcom, the Ombudsman and BBC Watchdog.

You can see the discontent here:

I urge all of you who are unhappy not to just sit back and take this kind of treatment. The more Vodafone see that people are upset and their reputation go down the drain, the more they are likely to worry and listen!

      Hi Matt,

Thank you for the detailed comment.

I’m sorry to hear that you and many other Vodafone customers will be out of pocket because of this new service. The way it was marketed gives the impression that this is something new, exciting and cost saving for Vodafone customers.

It’s dissapointing to hear that this is not actually the case!

I am extremely angry at the way Vodafone have handled this and their refusal to cancel my contract without penalty despite the impact on me the changes will have.

Was Data Traveller a part of your contract package, or an additional add-on?

Sorry, I did not see that message before. I had the daily option as the default data roaming setting and used to activate the monthly option before going away for more than a few days as it was great value. I obviously didn’t leave it on while in the UK as my data is inclusive for me here. Now Vodafone have taken this option away from me and even the daily option for short trips. They have also removed Passport which I would have wanted to keep as my roamed call use varies.

        Hi,

It will work out very expensive as the feedback on the forum thread clearly shows.

Vodafone has handled this in completely the wrong way.
